The value of collective stillness in Meeting for Worship is what brings us together as a community. When travelling to new Local Meetings, it is this same style of Worship that brings familiarity and ease. The Meeting supports our main fellowship on Sundays and Wednesdays, Young Adult Friends group on Tuesdays, the Open House on Wednesdays, and the drop-in silence on Fridays.
Upholding these activities requires much necessary work done behind-the-scenes, and to support the physical structure of our heritage building site. At Jesus Lane, committees of Friends meet regularly to discern where resources should be directed, both supporting Worship and to provide a gathering place for use by other groups. Donations from Friends enable this necessary work and demonstrate the value of our Local Meeting felt by members, attenders, and the local community.
Despite continued donations from many Friends, the Jesus Lane financial accounts for 2025 show that contributions to the Meeting in 2025 were 35% lower than in 2024. This is a significant drop in the expected funds that normally maintain the Meeting, and our Appeal this year focuses on addressing this deficit. We are at risk of not being able to continue our donations to other (Quaker) organisations undertaking good work. Additionally, costs in 2026 are rising and of particular concern is our ability to provide necessary building refurbishments to ensure the space is fit-for-purpose. So the meeting needs your financial help!
Any community is dynamic and needs to be maintained using regular contributions from each generation that carries it. Contribution involves many types of resources, with each person supporting in the ways appropriate for their stage of life. However, these activities cannot take place without monetary resources. Have you considered setting up a regular contribution to the meeting? For your kind consideration: a helpful document from BYM entitled "How much should I give to support Quaker work?", as well as a flyer containing short testimonies from Friends about their experience of supporting Jesus Lane Friends Meeting.
